INSPIRED BY MARGARET MEE’S MOONFLOWER EXPEDITION

In 1988 at age 78, botanical illustrator Margaret Mee embarked on what was to be her last expedition to the Amazon.
Her goal was to paint the rare moonflower cactus, Selenicerus wittii, which blooms only one night a year and dies at dawn.
She died in a car accident on November 30, 1988, 2 months after the painting was published.
